Q: What should my child wear in the pool?

A: All babies must wear correct fitting swimming nappies with costume/shorts over the top. This is a double nappy system which all parents must ensure their babies wear. You can buy all this in our swim shop at the centre.

For fully toilet trained children regular swim wear is required.

We advise boys not to wear long knee length swim shorts of girl’s bikinis as this can restrict their swimming.

Q: What if my child has never been in the water before?

A: All our teachers are very experienced with dealing with nervous children and they will know how to deal with the children. However it is always best to take your child to the pool beforehand to familiarise him/her with the layout and facilities and to meet our team.

Q; How do I enrol my child onto lessons?

A: To enrol your child either email or call the Swim School to be booked onto the next course. If the class is full you will be offered an alternative or to go on the waiting list.

Q: Can my child start when a term has already begun?

A: Yes as long as we have a place available they can start immediately and the term price will be adjusted accordingly.

Q: If I am placed on the waiting list, how long can I expect to wait?

A: The waiting-list can vary in length and is also dependant on the ability of the child and required day. Please ask at the reception for more information. For weekends places the wait is normally a lot longer.

Q: What should I bring for my child?

A: We provide teaching equipment and water aids. It is recommended to bring a bottle of water for your child to drink after they finish their lesson. For babies we recommend their usual food as they can get very hungry swimming around for 30 minutes. For our pre-coaching/coaching sessions we allow children to bring their water onto the poolside to drink when needed during training.

Q: Are the teachers in the water or on pool side?

A: For beginner classes and the younger age group classes our teachers normally instruct from the water as we find this helps the children relate to the teachers better. Once the children are in the improver classes, i.e. swimming lengths of our pool we normally instruct from the side as you can see better and the children can see the teacher better, however even then sometimes we get in to assist or demonstrate any part of the stroke to the class.

Q: How long does a lesson last for?

A: Lessons are 30minutes duration but do include a 5 minute hand over time to enable us to change classes, take the register etc.

Q: What if the lesson time is no longer suitable?

If you can’t make the lesson time, please call swimming tales as soon as possible. We will then then try to move your child if there is a suitable space available. There is a cut-off date by which parents must re-enrol, so after this date the spaces that are free will be available to other children.

Q: What Swimming Awards can I expect my child to get?

A: Swimming Tales uses the STA badge scheme that progresses your child through each level. We assess children towards the end of each term. If your child has reached the required standard at a level, they will be awarded a badge and certificate. These can be purchased at our reception. Please be aware, your child will only pass the level if they have completed all of the skills to the correct standard, determined by their teacher.

Q: Do I/my child need to shower before entering the pool?

A: Yes. By showering it helps to keep our pool a lot cleaner and healthier.

Q: Do I need to wear a swim hat?

A: Children must wear a swim hat if you are enrolled into our swimming lessons; from pre-school lessons upwards. Again this helps to keep our pool clean and also help you to swim better without your hair going in your face. It also distinguishes a sense of uniform from which children of this age will already be used to from pre-school/school.

Q: What if my child is ill?

A: If your child isn’t feeling well we advise you that you do not bring them swimming as any germs are likely to spread quickly in the warm, humid environment. If they have had any sickness or diarrhoea we ask that they do not swim until they have not had an episode for 48 hours.

Q: What’s the policy on cancellations?

A: We do not offer refunds or catch up lessons for general sickness, or holidays etc. however if it is long term illness please call the swimming pool to discuss the situation and we will try to be accommodating Any cancellations for 1-2-1 lessons must be made 24 hours in advance otherwise payment will be lost.

Q: How do I re-enrol onto the next course?

A: Three to two weeks prior to the end of the current course you will see notice about re-enrolment or be given a slip asking whether you wish to re-enrol. To keep your place on the course, please either pay in person at reception or call the swimming pool and pay for the next course. Failure to re-enrol within the deadline period will result in being removed from the next course and your place maybe taken by another child.

Q: What if I the miss the payment date?

A: If you miss the date, please contact the Swimming pool as soon as possible. After the pay by date, we fill the lessons with other children. If your space is still available, you just need to pay. If your space has gone, we will try to find you a suitable alternative. We cannot guarantee that we will be able to find you a suitable class, so please make sure you pay on time.
